Frequently Asked Questions
Can physical therapy help with neck pain?
Yes. Physical therapy is a common first-line treatment for neck pain. It focuses on reducing pain, restoring mobility, and strengthening the muscles that support your neck and upper back.
What if my neck pain causes headaches?
Some headaches are related to the neck and upper back. Your physical therapist will assess whether your neck may be contributing and include that in your plan. Learn more about our headache physical therapy.
How long does it take to feel better?
Many people notice changes within the first few visits, but every case is different. Your physical therapist will talk with you about a realistic timeline after your evaluation.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
In California, patients have direct access to physical therapy services without a physician’s prescription. This means you can begin treatment at Koah Health without prior referral. However, state law requires that after 45 calendar days or 12 visits—whichever comes first—a physician must sign off on your treatment plan to continue therapy. Additionally, some insurance providers may require a physician’s referral for coverage.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, we are in-network with many major insurance plans. Because coverage varies by plan, our team is happy to help verify your benefits before your first visit.
